As of 2026-10-19, the official PAO PAO Steam page lists Steam Deck compatibility as Unknown. There is no Verified or Playable badge to point to, and the game has not launched: Early Access begins on October 26, 2026, with a free demo available in the meantime. For a Deck owner, that means the only honest answer is "unrated, try the demo" — not "it runs great" and not "it doesn't run."

The minimum requirements on that page are an Intel Core i3-10100, 4 GB RAM, a GeForce GTX 1050, DirectX 11 and 2 GB of storage; the recommended tier is an i5-12400, 8 GB RAM and an RTX 3060. Those are desktop Windows figures, and the page does not translate them into Deck expectations. As of 2026-10-19, the system requirements section lists Windows 10/11 x64 and no other operating system.

PAO PAO Controller support is the part that matters most

Controller support is the part that matters most

PAO PAO is a game the developers explicitly recommend playing with a controller, and the store page lists full controller support alongside Steam Cloud, achievements, single-player and online co-op for up to four players total. On a handheld that is the encouraging half of the picture: the input layer is designed for a pad rather than bolted on.

The demo patch notes back this up. In the September 18, 2026 demo patch note, the developer groups a section under "Steam Deck & Controller" and reports that lobby codes can now be entered with the Steam keyboard, that modal windows were fixed on DualShock 4, and that controller navigation was improved. The October 1, 2026 patch for the main game lists improved gamepad navigation again. None of that is a performance claim, but it does show the demo was being handled with handheld and pad input in mind.

What demo impressions report

A LadiesGamers write-up of the demo, published 2026-01-22, describes playing single-player with a controller and finding the controls "worked well and were not complicated." The writer also describes the fishing minigame as needing a controller button held together with the left stick to keep a fish inside a zone — a pad-first design rather than a mouse-driven one.

Two caveats on that account: it does not say what hardware it ran on, so it is not a Steam Deck test, and it reports nothing about frame rate, heat or battery. Treat it as evidence that the controls suit a gamepad, not as evidence of Deck performance.

PAO PAO If you want to find out for yourself

If you want to find out for yourself

These are conditional suggestions, not tested instructions:

  • Install the free demo from the store page and launch it. If it fails to start or renders badly, switching the Proton version in the demo's Steam properties is the usual first thing Deck owners try with an unrated Windows build — that is general Steam Deck practice, not something the developer has documented for PAO PAO.
  • If you plan to play co-op, the September 2026 patch note says lobby codes can be entered with the Steam keyboard, which is the mechanism you would expect to use on a handheld.
  • Check the Steam Deck Compatibility field on the store page again after the October 26, 2026 Early Access launch. A rating can appear at any point, and the field is the only authoritative signal for this.

Next steps

  • If you care about pad layout details before committing, see PAO PAO controller support.
  • If you play the demo on Deck now and later buy the game, see PAO PAO demo save transfer — the developer's September 18, 2026 demo patch note states that demo saves can be carried into the full version.

FAQ

Is PAO PAO Steam Deck verified?

No. As of 2026-10-19, the official Steam page's Steam Deck Compatibility field reads Unknown, and the page does not show a Verified or Playable badge.

Can I play PAO PAO on Steam Deck right now?

You can download and try the free demo, which is available now. The full game is not released until Early Access on October 26, 2026, and the store page lists Windows 10/11 x64 as the supported system as of 2026-10-19, so there is no official Deck build to point to.

Does PAO PAO work with a controller?

Yes. The official Steam page lists full controller support, marks a gamepad as recommended, and notes DualShock and DualSense support.

Will my demo progress carry over if I play on Deck?

The developer's September 18, 2026 demo patch note says demo saves can be transferred to the full version of the game, so progress made in the demo is not necessarily lost at launch.
